ILN is a boutique content marketing agency, specialising in luxury and premium brands. Activities include magazine publishing, website design, marketing communications, digital marketing, PR and social media. Based in vibrant Spitalfields with 15 staff, this is a hands-on, varied role. We are looking for an ambitious, proactive finance professional, ideally with marketing agency experience, who can see the big picture but with an eagle eye for accuracy. You will be part of the senior management team reporting to the CEO/owner of the business.

FINANCIAL CONTROLLER Illustrated London News Limited • Hands-on management of finance and accounting function (one-person team). • Provide timely accounting services including management accounting, reconciled trial balance, cost control. Drive profitability through reporting, cost control and communications • Prepare the annual budget and updated bi-monthly forecasts. Weekly cash flow forecasts and supervision of accounts payable and receivables on weekly basis. • Management of banking and invoice finance arrangements and relationships. Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and management accounts in timely fashion. Administrate all bank accounts, including foreign currency, and credit cards. • Credit control and chasing overdue payments. Involves some book-keeping/day-to-day administration • Management of all tax, PAYE and VAT matters and payments. • Work closely with CEO and senior managers as part of management team. Advise on likely financial consequences of proposed courses of action. Ensure the appropriateness and accuracy of the key assumptions in the financial plan and annual budget proposals. Attendance at bi-monthlyBoard meetings to report. • Prepare financial reports for board deck with updated forecasts, cashflow projections and balance sheet etc in advance of meeting Preparation of monthly salary schedules and supervision of payroll function (managed by external payroll bureau) • Improve the company’s financial processes, in particular migrating from Sage 200 to Xero. • Maintain statutory accounts and records. Work with external auditors on preparation of annual accounts. • Operational role (key areas HR/IT/Insurance). Maintain contact withadvisers and consultants for pension schemes and employee benefits     The ideal candidate will have:   Strong accounting knowledge and experience, preferably in media, creative agency or marketing services sector High level of accuracy Minimum 3 years of running an accounting function Experience in management accounting and reporting, preferably for a smaller entrepreneurial business Keen to grow into a bigger role. Appetite for growth for the company. A team player. Ideally has worked in a SME and experience of close cash flow management Excellent technical skills, including advanced ExCel, accruals and prepayments, revenue recognition Ability to juggle, prioritise, speedy and calm under pressure. Focus on key deadlines, despite interruptions. Insist on need to spot an error, find the root cause and solve it Hands on, willing to roll sleeves up, proactive, resourceful, resilient, positive Attention to detail, but sees the broader picture Degree-educated, accounting qualification preferred but not a requisite i.e. ACCA, CIMA, ACA Sound understanding of finance systems and system implementation experience, Xero a distinct advantage. Experience in automating procedures Happy and able to deal with operational, HR issues as well as finance Strong communication/interpersonal skills, including with suppliers and creditors by telephone and email and internally Problem-solving and decision-making ability Strong work ethic Sense of humour ‹ all articles
